Why is it that simply learning techniques and knowledge isn't enough to perform treatments that truly move customers' hearts?
When we ask people who attend our trial classes or information sessions, "Why did you choose our school out of all the other schools?", many of them give us this answer.
"I read your blog and was deeply moved by the importance of the 'way of being' that you conveyed."
Most massage schools teach primarily "techniques (how to do them)" and "knowledge of muscles and anatomy." Of course, skills and knowledge are absolutely essential foundations for performing treatments as a professional.
However, no matter how much you hone your techniques or fill yourself with knowledge, there are some walls that you simply cannot overcome.
The challenge lies in whether we can perform treatments that resonate with the client's heart and evoke deep emotion, simply through touch.
Why treatments that focus solely on "how to do it" only provide temporary relief
When you try to address a client's discomfort or symptoms, such as stiff shoulders or lower back pain, using only techniques (methods) like "this muscle requires this approach," the effects tend to be only temporary.
This is because a person's body and muscle stiffness are not merely "physical parts," but rather a culmination of their lifestyle, emotions, and history of tension .
Treatments that attempt to control symptoms using only "tools" such as techniques and knowledge tend to become mere routine work and fail to reach the deeper parts of the client's body (the switches that release tension).
Are you perhaps referring to yourself as "a version of yourself that isn't you"?
There is actually a very common condition among therapists who are striving to improve their techniques.
It's a state where you're diligently acting out "the right answers" or "success strategies" that someone else taught you, without realizing the true nature of who you are or how you want to live.
"This is how successful therapists should behave."
"This procedure is necessary for this symptom."
When a therapist tries to force themselves into "someone else's mold," their body and hands develop "hesitation" and "unnecessary tension" that they themselves are unaware of.
In treatments like Swedish massage, where you completely entrust your body weight to the therapist, any tension or hesitation will be directly conveyed to the client.
For the body to feel "safe" and for the mind to truly relax, it is absolutely essential that the therapist doing the touching is honest with themselves and feels secure in their own existence (i.e., their state of being is in balance).
It is only by standing as your "true self" that you can convey emotion through your palms.
A therapist who can truly touch the heartstrings of their clients and provide them with a deep sense of security is firmly connected to their inner self.
"What kind of person am I, and what do I value in life?"
"What do I want to convey to the person in front of me through these hands?"
It is because I deeply understand and accept myself that I can let go of unnecessary tension and simply be there for the customer in front of me.
When touched by that gentle and warm "presence," customers feel for the first time that they can safely entrust themselves to this person, and the power of healing from deep within their bodies begins to work.
The reason we teach "the way of being"
Our school values "the way of being" more than technical procedures because we want our students to become not just "one-off practitioners," but "true therapists who are loved and appreciated by clients for a lifetime."
Know-how and techniques may change depending on the times and environment.
However, the warmth and sense of security that radiates from your very being will be a lifelong treasure.
Before learning any technology, you must first prepare the most important tool: yourself.
We want to continue being a school that not only teaches the "methods" of techniques, but also supports the "way of being" of each individual practitioner.
