For therapists who feel that oil massages don't really provide a satisfying experience.
"I don't really feel any effect from oil massages ."
I've been hearing those words repeatedly lately.
I met a therapist with 10 years of experience in Tokyo yesterday.
And today, I spoke with a therapist with four years of experience via Zoom.
Both of them have solid experience in massage and similar techniques.
I'm also learning about the human body.
But when it comes to oil massages, I just can't seem to feel confident.
Hearing this story made me realize something again.
Oil massages can make your hands slip.
For a massage, insert your fingers into the hardened areas.
In some cases, use your elbow.
This makes it easier to feel a sense of accomplishment, knowing that your message is reaching its target.
Therefore, the person performing the treatment can also feel at ease.
However, using oil makes it harder to perceive that "feel."
Then,
"I want to make it more effective."
"I want to insert it deeper."
When that happens, you'll want to use sharper parts of your body, like your fingertips or elbows.
However, the stronger and sharper you touch, the more your body unconsciously tries to protect itself.
I think that the more experienced a therapist is, the more they can sense that difference physically.
I feel like I need to do more, but something just doesn't feel right.
Even though I'm performing the treatment thoroughly, it's not leading to customer satisfaction.
That feeling might be what leads to the phrase, "I'm not confident in the oil."
So, is the only way to connect deeply to something to strengthen it?
I don't think so.
Swedish massage (classic) has a different kind of "depth" than simply pressing hard with fingers or elbows.
Touch with the palm of your hand.
Use your own body weight.
Entrust yourself to the other person's body.
Don't use more force than necessary.
Even so, the person being touched has the feeling that their message has truly reached them.
It's deep, but it doesn't hurt.
Even though I'm touching them firmly, their bodies aren't going into a defensive stance.
And there's a lingering sense of satisfaction after the treatment.
This is one of the reasons why I continue to be drawn to Swedish massage.
"Depth" and "strength" are not the same thing.
and,
"Feeling of results" isn't just something the practitioner experiences.
The other person's body must be able to receive it with peace of mind.
I think that, too, is a form of "results" or "feeling of accomplishment."
Because I have learned the technology and gained experience,
Not "stronger",
"How can I reach a deeper audience?"
Some people arrive at that conclusion.
Lately, I've been having a string of encounters with therapists like that.
Perhaps Swedish massage is
"Learn oil massage"
Not only that,
Perhaps this technique is meant to prompt us to reconsider the very concept of "deep connection."
