I've learned skills and knowledge. But there's still something I'm searching for.

The other day, someone came all the way from a distant location to attend a Swedish massage trial session.

Apparently, that person has acquired a great deal of technical skill and knowledge over the years.

Even so, I still can't seem to get to the core of what's truly within myself.

That's what they were talking about.

I don't remember all the specific terms, but even though they have the skills and knowledge, something still doesn't feel right.

I'm still searching for something.

I think that's how they were feeling.

And thank you for reading the blog I write.

"I want to learn here."
"There are things you can only learn here."

They felt that way and traveled a long distance to visit us.

And today, something memorable happened while I was having lunch with the students during their lunch break.

One student asked a new student who had recently enrolled:

"Why did you decide to enroll in EAO?"

That's what I was asking.

That person really wanted to work as a therapist, and apparently searched and searched and searched for various schools.

However, I couldn't find a school that I felt was "the one."

That's when they apparently found my Instagram account.

And the reason they gave for deciding to enroll was,

"The idea that the way you are is what's important, something no one else was saying, really resonated with me."

Those were the words.

Listening to that conversation from beside me, I had a realization.

There are people who are looking for what I am trying to convey.

⸻

Learning skills and knowledge is very important.

When learning Swedish massage, it is important to study the body, including musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology.

Of course, acquiring technical skills is also necessary.

I myself have learned a great deal so far.

And I continue to learn even now.

However, there's something I've come to realize during my 23 years of training therapists.

To increase one's knowledge.
To practice a skill.

There are some things you simply can't achieve through that alone.

I can't do it because I don't have the knowledge.
We can't do it because we lack the necessary skills.

I think that can happen.

But even though they possess the knowledge and skills, for some reason I'm not satisfied with the treatment.

I want to make our customers feel more comfortable, but the harder I try, the more I end up putting too much pressure on myself.

I want to touch you more deeply, but my body tenses up.

These problems are deeply related not only to technical procedures and knowledge, but also to one's own state of mind when touching someone and how one interacts with the other person's body .

I have always cherished that aspect.

⸻

You don't have to focus only on your shortcomings.

Some students who come to EAO initially lack self-confidence or have difficulty maintaining their own sense of self.

"It's not done yet."
"I need to work harder."
"There is something I am lacking."

That's how you end up focusing only on what's not done well.

However, some people gradually change as they continue to learn.

It's not about being able to do everything perfectly.

I'll just do my best with what I can do right now.

I'll do my best with who I am now.

That resolve gradually begins to emerge.

Instead of constantly blaming yourself for what you haven't achieved, accept yourself as you are now.

And then, I will do my best to deliver what I can do right now to the customers in front of me.

I feel that there's a big change happening there.

As your sense of self becomes more stable, unnecessary anxiety and tension gradually decrease, and you become able to trust and connect with your own senses.

There's no need to try to make yourself seem important.
There's no need to try to prove yourself by comparing yourself to others.

I'll do what I can with the skills I have right now.

I believe that attitude is reflected in the treatment itself.

⸻

My senses are becoming sharper.

To acquire skills and knowledge.

And then, I also work on getting my own condition in order.

This can sometimes allow a person's innate senses and ability to perceive the other person's body to be more fully expressed.

Lately, when I observe EAO students, I've noticed that their ability to perceive subtle fluctuations and changes in the body has become remarkably refined.

Based on the sensations you feel when you touch someone, you adjust your touch according to their condition.

We work with each individual's body to find the treatment that is best suited to them.

These changes are reflected in the treatment itself.

Of course, sensing the state of the body through touch is different from diagnosing the medical cause.

What I value most is the ability to notice subtle changes in a person's body and adjust my touch accordingly.

I think that's a different kind of learning than simply memorizing technical procedures.

⸻

The cycle created through the treatment

And there's something good to tell you.

As the students continue to perform treatments, those clients often come back for more Swedish massages.

This makes customers want to take the course again, leading to repeat business.

The growth of our students is conveyed to our customers through their treatments.

Customers who receive that treatment often come back again.

I am very happy to see that such a positive cycle is being created.

I believe that sometimes you get chosen precisely because your skills have improved.

Furthermore, it's not just about the technology; the state of mind and approach of the people handling the product can also contribute to building trust with customers.

I want to cherish both of those things.

⸻

Why do we continue to convey this way of being?

To be honest, I sometimes find myself unsure about what to post.

Shouldn't we provide more information about muscles?

Wouldn't sharing easy-to-understand information about anatomy and the human body encourage more people to want to learn?

I sometimes think that way.

In fact, I think there are many people who are looking for that kind of information.

Therefore, I don't think that knowledge is unnecessary.

However, that's not the only thing I want to convey right now.

What I still cherish after teaching Swedish massage for 23 years.

It's not just about memorizing the form of the technique, but also about the state of mind you yourself are in when using that technique.

No matter how many procedures you memorize or how much knowledge you acquire, if the condition of the person you are touching doesn't change, it will be difficult to improve the quality of the treatment.

That's why I want to convey that point.

I want this to reach those who, having acquired skills and knowledge, are searching for something beyond that.

I want to cultivate therapists who have their own core values, trust their own instincts, and can connect with clients in a supportive way.

That's what I value most at EAO.

⸻

Sending messages that reach those who are searching.

To the person who came all the way from afar the other day.

And today, a student shared their reasons for enrolling at EAO.

Hearing your stories made me very happy.

There are people who are looking for the things that I cherish.

Having acquired skills and knowledge, some people feel the need to learn something even more advanced.

I was reminded once again that EAO's ideas can reach people like that.

My message doesn't reach everyone.

Some people are looking for information about muscles and anatomy.
Some people want to know the technical procedures.

I believe everyone has things they want to learn and things they value.

Among them, there are people who are moved by what I want to convey.

That's very much appreciated.

I intend to continue sharing not only the techniques of Swedish massage, but also the importance of the human element in the act of touch.

Rather than simply using predetermined techniques to make someone feel good, we understand what is necessary for the body and mind to relax and for them to feel comfortable.

The goal is not to change the other person's body, but to create an environment where they can relax and feel safe.

And it's also important for the therapist themselves to be able to touch in a way that feels authentic to them.

That's where the lesson I want to continue sharing lies.

If you've acquired skills and knowledge, but still feel like you're searching for something more...

I hope that one day you will come across EAO's posts.

I hope that what I cherish reaches those who need it.
