From methods to ways of being

I've been teaching Swedish massage for 23 years now.

It suddenly came to me.
In the coming era, simply knowing "how" to do things is not enough.
Yes, I felt it very clearly.

So, if it's not about the method, then what is it?

What I ultimately arrived at was "the way of being."

The job of a therapist is one that involves working with people.
Customers come to us with some kind of physical or mental ailment.

Up until now, we have sought the cause of these ailments, accumulated anatomical knowledge, and honed our skills to provide treatment.

However, over the past few years, a certain conviction has grown stronger within me.

The customer's discomfort is not just a problem with muscles, internal organs, nerves, or blood.

The clients who come for treatment are not living their true selves. This is manifesting in their bodies.

If that's the case, then what is the role of the therapist?

I've come to believe that this can serve as a medium to return customers to their true essence .

The technique reveals the true nature of the work.
The Swedish massage I teach is a technique that uses very little oil. You can't press with just the strength of your hands.

You must create a state of complete surrender—otherwise, the technique cannot function.

And herein lies the essence.

Those who live in accordance with their true essence can surrender.
However, those who are detached from their true nature try to solve things by force.

In other words, the technique itself reveals a person's current state of being.

I provide instruction while carefully observing the individual needs and circumstances of each student.
Rather than directly telling someone, "This is how your way of life is reflected," the goal is to help them gain self-awareness through the use of technology.

Technology and way of being can only be conveyed simultaneously.
Simply describing the ideal way of doing things in words remains abstract, and teaching only the techniques only results in a superficial understanding.

In every moment you move your hands, both sides rise up simultaneously.

First, the therapist must be living their authentic self.

The therapist themselves must be living true to their own core, their authentic self.

I believe this is the most important thing.
And there's a specific order to it.
If a therapist is not living their own authentic self, they cannot act as a medium to help their clients return to their authentic self.

Because everything is conveyed through touch, through the flow of space, and even before words are spoken.

Conversely, therapists who live life on their own terms don't need to do anything special; their very presence reminds clients that they have a "place to return to."

Skills can be acquired through practice.
However, living life on your own terms means there's no room for pretense.

That's why it's essential that the therapist themselves is living that reality; that's the foundation for everything.

It took 10 years to become a firm conviction.

I started noticing this about 10 years ago.
It's only in the last few years that what was once a vague outline has transformed into a deep conviction.

Conviction is not something you can acquire through intellectual thought alone.

I believe it's something you can only truly grasp when your own physical sensations catch up to that level.

The concept is changing .
What I'm about to tell you is the complete opposite of how schools teach these days.

You could even say that the concept itself is changing.

This theory overturns everything that has been built up until now.
So, I think some people might find it hard to believe.
Some people will probably say, "Knowledge is important after all."

I'm not denying the value of knowledge.
The place where knowledge is located is changing.

Knowledge gained when it is based on a solid foundation of one's way of being is truly valuable.

However, simply accumulating knowledge without understanding the underlying principles will not give you the power to bring customers back to their true selves.

This is about the order and the foundation.
To change this era, and to change the era of the therapist industry, requires determination.

What I can do, first and foremost, is to pass on my knowledge to the students who are currently under my tutelage.

And one more thing.

To let those who are about to choose a school know that there is another path available.

There are probably many people who feel a vague sense of unease, but are still hesitant because they're told that qualifications and knowledge are important.

I hope this can be an entry point for those people to realize, "Oh, there's this kind of path too."

That's what I hope for when I write this.
