The real reason why your body doesn't change even when you relax

I went on a two-day retreat,
I had a very memorable experience.

Walking through the forest, feeling the wind, gazing at the sea, and quietly talking while watching the stars at night.

I didn't receive any special treatment or care.

They were simply able to relax and enjoy nature.

Yet, the changes that occurred in my body were very clear.

One thing that's noticeable is the increase in excretion.

My fluid intake hasn't changed much from usual, but I feel the need to go to the bathroom many times.

At first, I found it a little strange.

But as I quietly observed my bodily sensations, I began to understand it clearly.

Ah, my body is starting to flow now.

The human body does not always function in the same state.
We spend much of our daily lives in a state of mild tension.

Work relationships, the sheer volume of information, the feeling of being constantly pressed for time

All of these unconsciously put your nerves into a "defensive state."

When the body is in a defensive state, breathing, blood flow, and the function of internal organs are all affected.

We will gently restrict movement to prevent it from moving more than necessary.

That's a very natural thing for the body.

Because creating a large circulation when you feel you are in danger is an energy-consuming act.

Therefore, the body stops flowing more when it is tense.

However, the moment you put yourself in a safe environment

I've decided that protecting the nerves is no longer necessary.

At that moment, the body slowly resumes the functions it had stopped.

Breathing deepens, blood flow increases, internal organs begin to function, and bodily fluids start circulating.

And things that are no longer needed naturally go outside.

The recent increase in excretion was a clear sign of this.

What I realized again here is that the essence of relaxation is not about loosening muscles.

What's truly needed is for the body to say, "It's okay to let go now."
To create a state where one feels that way.

When those conditions are met, recovery is not something that is given from the outside.

It starts automatically from within your body.

No matter how advanced the technology, if the nervous system remains in a defensive state, no significant changes will occur.

Conversely, the moment when a sense of security is established

Even the slightest touch can cause surprisingly large changes in the body.

This experience that happened in nature

They gave me a firm understanding of the true role of the relaxation work we do every day.

Relaxation is not just about feeling good.

Creating an environment where life can remember its original function.

The body only truly begins to flow when it feels at ease.

That's why

I believe that therapists who can create that "space where a sense of security is established" with their hands possess a power far greater than one might imagine.
