To therapists who continue to study anatomy ③
Third installment: Is Anatomy Still Necessary?
I've studied too much anatomy and I'm lost.
That's when you finally find the courage to let go.
Many therapists
This is the question I have.
"So, is anatomy no longer necessary?"
The answer is,
It is necessary.
However, it's not the same as before.
When I first started studying anatomy,
It was something you had to memorize.
Muscle names, origins, insertions, and nerve pathways
In the next stage,
It will be something you use.
Loosening this point will cause this reaction; changes will occur at this line.
and,
After going through a period of getting lost,
After gaining the courage to let go.
Anatomy is,
It will no longer be something you consciously use.
At this stage,
I can't recall the names of the muscles during the procedure.
but,
I naturally avoid dangerous places.
I unconsciously avoid putting undue pressure on myself.
Now, I can sense with my body the appropriate depth and distance to touch.
Anatomy is,
It's not in my head,
It's fused into my hands and body.
This is
This is a state where anatomy has become "embodied."
At this point,
The treatment will be very quiet.
They don't try to make anything happen.
They don't even try to change.
just,
Receiving the opponent's physical reactions,
I respond to that with my hands.
Then, strangely enough,
The results will follow later.
My breathing deepened, I relaxed, and the words "I feel relieved" lingered in my mind.
it is,
Not because knowledge has been lost,
Because I'm no longer controlled by knowledge.
Studying anatomy is,
It will never be wasted.
Even the time spent studying diligently,
Even during times when I was lost,
Even at the moment I mustered the courage to let go,
Everything has shaped the treatments we perform today.
And finally,
Anatomy is not a "weapon for doing something,"
This provides a foundation for avoiding overdoing things.
If now,
If you're feeling lost because you've learned too much,
That's proof that you've steadily built things up over time.
If now,
If you are drawn to treatments that don't target specific areas,
That's not laziness.
it is,
It means being in a natural progression of maturing as a therapist.
Anatomy is,
In the end, it doesn't disappear,
As for your way of being,
It remains there in silence.
